New York New York

Warning: Contains Many Pictures!!

Wow! What an experience! New York was so, so, hmm…entertaining, full of great foods, dynamic, a city that never sleeps…

So,  I thought I should break our get-a-way into categories. Please be advised that these are my iPhone pictures, I haven't even gotten our camera pics on the computer yet.

People to Meet:

I went to Rachel Ashwell's new store…Shabby Chic!  They were not officially open for a couple more days but seeing as the door was open, they were working inside and I was heading back home that very afternoon, I begged to come inside. I walked in and low and behold - there was Ms. Rachel Ashwell herself! Wowee! I was pleasantly surprised. What a shop indeed. They were not up and running but it was as charming a shop as ever! Thank you to you - Ms. Rachel, family and staff for allowing us not only to invade your store but to take this picture for my blog!

Rachel Ashwell and Me

My cute husband playing peek-a-boo with me after the New York Yankees game.

This true lady was under construction so this was the best we could do.

Some friendly New York police officers. (We overheard them say that all the horses are boys because if there were any girls the boy horsies would go crazy…boys will be boys!)

Foods To Eat: (and where to get them)

This was one of my favourite things about our trip. The food.

351 Broadway - "Fresh Market Food" - they have these little stores that are surprising. You walk in to buy, I dunno a band-aid, say, and low and behold, there's milk and eggs, (ok, no biggey, right?) but there's also a fruit buffet, a salad buffet and sushi and veggies. You turn your head and there's a counter to order fresh turkey sandwiches or whatever…oddly interesting.

"Nathan's" famous hot dogs. These were at the Yankees game. They were ok.

New York is famous for it's meatballs. Yum. These were from "The Brooklyn Diner" (which quickly became a favourite of ours)

This cheesecake was simply amazing!! (We actually consumed 4 pieces in 4 days!) This was also from the "Brooklyn Diner" They make it fresh in-house. It was a mix between baked and whipped. It had the texture of...corn starch…(sorta)- you know how when you rub it between your fingers it feels smooth and velvety? Yup. This was velvet in my mouth.

Inside the "Brooklyn Diner"

I cannot remember where we ordered this. Which is too bad cuz this omelette was delicious and this ' wedge salad' was interesting; yet easy to eat. Seems to be the new thing now-a-days.

Pizza! Those who know me, know that pizza is one of my absolute favourite foods ever! "John's Pizza" in Times Square was our other favourite eating place. Get there early so you don't have to wait in line.

"John's Pizza" Times Square. See that oven? They are making the pizza right there for you…better get a table quick ; >

This was at the original "Meatball Shop". If you look closely you'll see markers in a glass on the table. You check off the box beside what type of meatball (freshly made in house, of course) and your side dish etc. Then they come and take your menu and bring back these fantastic meatballs.

 Mine were the spicy meatballs!!

The "Meatball Shop" 84 Stanton (and Allen)

Another good place to eat was the Blue Fin. Here you can eat healthy. If you order the fruit and granola beware, they come in large bowls. I,  however, was being a risk taker and tried the organe, carrot and ginger drink. I'm not sure why I did that considering I don't even like carrots! I must have been feeling guilting from all the indulgence! = >

Places To Go/Things To Do:

Grand Central Station-

The steps and walls must be made out of granite or marble. They are so sturdy and beautiful. (I noticed too that the roadside curbs were stone as well in Times Square)

What were the chances that I would get this business gentleman wearing his hat and carrying his briefcase for my picture? How great.

This is the ceiling in Grand Central Station!

I was really quite enthralled with the subways and trains. I had no idea there were trains on top of trains, and subway tracks running on top of subway tracks. It was so fast to get around.

I'm pretty sure this is one of the buildings used in the show SMASH. (Maybe when they dimmed the lights on broadway?)

Three floors of chocolate. Yummy M&M's! (You can stand in line and get them personalized but I'd rather eat 'em)

I would NOT recommend getting around by bike taxi. They cost a fortune! The cab was something like $3, the bike ride for a couple blocks was $66! =/

New York has so much concrete and then pouff! Around the corner is a cute little park just waiting for you to discover it.

In all these great buildings we were met by friendly men and women all dressed up in suits, ties and classy headdress.

Right beside the trump tower is TIFFANY'S!!

Six floors! I had no idea it was really 6 floors.

Look how sparkly this is!

This is where the old stadium used to be.

Which is right next to the new stadium now.

See? Trains and subways…Kevin had to laugh at me when I tried to take a picture of a rat!

A school. We have space here and don't need the fences to be quite the same.

Central Park has so many beautiful and unexpected places to see.

You must be a team to work the tandem bike. It is a really great way to get around the park.

Water falls in Central Park

If you look closely under the bridge you'll see a random person doing a photo shoot.

In fact there was a young lady modelling for her photo shoot moments after I took this picture.

Doesn't this remind you of the movie Enchanted?

And this

and this too?

The buildings were so old and wonderful. I loved all the fire escapes and quaint balconies. I took so many pics of them.

A view from the observation deck - I love the looks of the Chrysler Building shinning in the distance.

Looking up to the very top of the Empire State Building

See the green space just popping up in the middle of the city?

What a view.

There's Central Park! See the green?

Way off in the distance is the Statue of Liberty

Broadway Show Wicked was- well…WICKED!

Heard this place has (on occasion) had Broadway stars stop in to sing a tune. The staff who serve you also take their turn singing solos or backup or even play the tambourine as they hand you your cheesecake!

And my cute Hubby putting up with me and my camera on these remarkable stairs.

Happy Journeying!
